Smt. Hemavathi Sathyanarayanan is a Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher and choreographer born into a family of dancers. She is a disciple of Guru. Rohini Ramesh and Guru. Vidhya Shimladka and attended workshops conducted by Guru. Sheela Unni. She has performed extensively in many cultural programs in Chennai, Bangalore and USA. She has completed Bharatanatyam diploma course in Padmashree K.N.Dhandayudapani Pillai’s Navarasakendra (school of Bharatanatyam), Chennai.
Smt. Hema has been teaching Bharatanatyam for over a decade and established Kalashraya Dance Academy in Folsom, CA. Apart from teaching the techniques of Bharatanatyam, students are given training in yoga, Bharatanatyam theory and nattuvangam. Students of Kalashraya have participated in various recitals and competitions held in and around Sacramento and Bay Area and have won many awards for their school.
Dance is a beautiful art form. The teacher initially directs and teaches this divine art form to the students and later inspires them to bring out the best in themselves.
Learning this art form is like a long journey between the teacher and student. The love and affection of the teacher makes it a journey to cherish for the student.
The teacher plays the essential role of a sculptor. Through her patience and perseverance, she transforms a student into a great dancer.
