An Arangetram is a graduation program offered to all the advanced students of Kalashraya. The student learns and presents a whole new Margam with a live orchestra. The venue of the arangetram is decided by the parents. It can be held either in the USA or any other country of their choice.
In the earlier days, arangetrams were considered as a part of teaching bharatanatyam. There were no separate fees or extra charges for preparing a student. For the guru, the parents just need to pay nattuvanar dakshinai (ie charges for doing nattuvangam ).
Kalashraya still follows the same tradition as our motive is only to spread this art form to as many as possible.
Natya Manjari is a performance opportunity given to the post arangetram students of Kalashraya.
An Arangetram is the first step in taking up this art form as a career. After their arangetram, students are given the opportunity to assist the teacher in class. They are also taught the nuances of choreography.
Natya Manjari is a series in which students get to perform the pieces that they choreographed with the help of the guru. This program helps students keep up with their dancing after their arangetram.
KALASHRAYA IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ACADEMY
A student gets disappointed when she realizes that she was not selected to represent her school by her teacher. It also brings down the morale of the child.
In Kalashraya, competition opportunities are given to the entire school (from basic 2 - advanced ) and interested students will compete. There is no prior selection within the school/batch and no one is compelled to attend or refrained from attending. The winners are appreciated, not celebrated.
Kalashraya Dance Academy participates in almost all the Indian community/association events that are conducted in and around Sacramento and Bay area.
Students in each level/group take turns and represent the school in each event. This ensures that every student gets an opportunity to represent the school.
Performing the item that they learned is like a reward for all the hard work they put in. The school spirit of a student goes up when they are encouraged to represent the school.
